About
MALDIBANK is a European project led by MIRRI-ERIC with the main goal of conceptualizing a global, cloud-based, open MALDI-TOF MS (Matrix-Assisted Laser Desorption/Ionization Time-of-Flight Mass Spectrometry) spectra database in order to enhance precision in microorganism identification.
The project will provide an enhanced tool useful both, within and beyond clinical microbiology, in domains like antimicrobial resistance prediction, food safety, environmental monitoring, and sustainable agriculture. It aims to combine 100,000 spectra with advanced algorithmic tools and deep learning to better study microbial diversity.
The CRBIP will use its expertise to demonstrate practical applications of this database to pressing issues of our time, as well as engage the microbial resources and expertise of the CIP and PCC in the database development process and standard operation procedures (SOPs) development. The CRBIP-PMO will implement and coordinate an external quality assessment (EQA) programme to assess the biobanks’ performance on MALDI-TOF MS with the MALDIBANK database, and to standardize practices in line with a continuous improvement strategy.
